Univesrity Introduction

The University of Southern Punjab (USP), Multan, is a prominent higher education institution located in the culturally rich and historically significant city of Multan, Pakistan. Established with the mission to bridge the educational gap in Southern Punjab, USP holds the distinction of being the first private-sector degree-awarding institute in the region. Its foundation marks a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance literacy rates and provide access to quality higher education in an area that has traditionally lagged behind in educational development.

History

The inception of USP was driven by the need to address the limited opportunities for higher education in Southern Punjab, a region known for its economic and social challenges. The Government of Punjab recognized this need and granted USP its charter, officially designating it as a Degree Awarding Institute (DAI). Over the years, USP has grown into a hub of academic excellence, offering programs in diverse fields and gaining recognition from prestigious accrediting bodies in Pakistan.

USP is accredited by “The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, which oversees and regulates the country’s higher education institutions”, “The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) for its engineering programs”, “The National Technology Council (NTC) for technology-related disciplines”, “The Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP)” for architecture and town planning programs and permitted by the “Pakistan Bar Council (PBC).” These accreditations reflect the institute’s commitment to maintaining high academic and professional standards.

Rector, USP

As the Rector of the University of Southern Punjab (USP), I am deeply inspired by the transformative vision of the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan, in advancing Open and Distance Learning (ODL) as a pivotal strategy for broadening access to quality education across the country.

The Chairman’s leadership has laid a strong foundation for leveraging modern technology and innovative approaches to make education accessible to students from diverse backgrounds, especially those in remote and underserved areas. His focus on ODL has effectively addressed critical barriers, such as geographic limitations and resource constraints, ensuring that Pakistani youth are empowered to pursue flexible and affordable education.

We resonate with the HEC’s mission to foster a knowledge-driven society. By embracing the principles of inclusivity and innovation in education, we are committed to preparing our students to excel in a dynamic global environment while upholding the cultural and social values that define our nation.
